  • Written by SBS

Premiering on NITV, SBS and SBS On Demand from Saturday 30 January

National Indigenous Television (NITV) and SBS are proud to announce that Going Places with Ernie Dingo is back for a fourth season, taking viewers to the most outstanding locations Australia has to offer. The past year has changed the way we travel, and the timely new season showcases the beauty of Australia’s best travel destinations as Australians rediscover their own backyard.

National treasure Ernie Dingo takes us to a host of brand-new locations, kicking off on Saturday 30 January at 7.30pm on SBS with half-hour episodes, and taking a deeper dive on NITV in extended episodes from Sunday 31 January at 8.30pm.

The fourth season of Going Places with Ernie Dingo champions Australia’s diversity - not only in landscape but also cultures and people. In each episode, Ernie meets with traditional owners and locals and his conversational and laid-back interview style provides an intimate portrait of each of the locations he visits.

This season sees Ernie meet an array of extraordinary characters, exploring connection to Country and culture. He meets with First Nations communities in Darwin who educate audiences on the importance of the wildlife to the land, a nun on Bathurst Island who is working with young families and artists to share their love for their culture, traditional owners in the Whitsundays who are conducting research on sea turtles, and many more incredible individuals.

Ernie scales from the Top End in Queensland to the Murray River in South Australia, and special guest Aaron Fa’aoso (Black Comedy, Little J & Big Cuz) joins Ernie for a couple of special episodes along the way, exploring the outback town of Longreach, as well as guest presenting one episode where he takes us to Granite Belt in Queensland, catching up with music legend Kev Carmody for a chat.

Director of Indigenous Content, Tanya Orman, said: “Going Places With Ernie Dingo is a show that continues to appeal to NITV and SBS audiences alike. The fourth season is a remarkable achievement, off the back of a year that’s challenged travel as we know it - it’s safe to say that this season of Going Places with Ernie Dingo is an escape for audiences, more than ever before. The fan-favourite series continues to champion the best places to travel in Australia, and dually does not fail to educate on Country and culture as well as entertain.”

Presenter Ernie Dingo said: “Everyone will walk away from watching all-new Going Places knowing more about Australia, its cultures and people. We visit some of the most beautiful places in the country and through the knowledge of the local people, we learn about their community and why they live there. I’m sure people at home will get to know the places we visit on a personal level and might just find somewhere new they want to visit themselves.”

The 12-episode season premieres on SBS with half-hour episodes commencing weekly from Saturday 30 January at 7.30pm. Followed by one-hour, full-length episodes airing weekly on NITV from Sunday 31 January at 8.30pm.

Full hour episodes of the fourth season of Going Places with Ernie Dingo will be made available on SBS On Demand after broadcast on NITV.
